standard questions & policies

Here are some standard questions and questions on our policies that most parents have regarding Smart Kids Robotics. Updated August 1st. 2023

Smart kids Robotics are computer engineers, mechanical engineers, computer security engineers with over 30 years of combined commercial industry experience in specialized in providing quality Robotics and Coding training to students. We embed into every lesson, the why we build what we build and how it relates to STEM, and we work with students to design and build innovative  ideas that solve real-world problems.  We equip students with the knowledge and develop their skills so they can build future technologies.

Smart Kids Robotics was built on the foundation of educating kids on robotics and coding in a fun, competitive, and motivating way while we develop our students problem-solving, analytical, presentation, and critical thinking skills. Our hands-on approach means students learn at their own pace but are motivated through collaboration with their fellow future engineers.

The curriculum has been developed by highly experienced instructors and is designed to help students improve their skills in team collaboration, leadership, acuity, motivation, and time management.

Smart Kids Robotics recommends kids can begin learning  in Grade 2 (between the ages of 6 to 7).

We’ve a maximum of 6 students per coach.  Our curriculum is self-paced, where every child can do their own projects and then join group projects to collaborate at different times in the program.

Smart Kids Robotics take one coding and one robotics class per week. Routine throughout the year is vital as they retain more from the curriculum.

Smart Kids Robotics provides parents a quarterly review and your child will be required to present their work to the class and to their parents once per month.

Classes

Smart Kids Robotics curriculum is developed from many years of research and experience in the fields of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. We also build our own 3D models, step-by-step directions, and lesson plans according to level of difficulty, grade level and age – tailored to students who complete their self-paced projects in a fun, supportive,  and encouraging environment.

No prior experience is necessary. We assess every child when then come into our classes to understand their level of knowledge with a questionnaire to know their level. Kids will easily pickup and find the fun, excitement and joy from learning robotics and coding quite fast.

Absolutely, yes they can! We provide trial classes for robotics.

Call us at: (647) 970-2242 to register for a class or Click Here to contact us for a trial class.

After the Trial Robotics Workshop – our experienced staff will sit with you to review your options after the class and make some recommendations.  We look forward to seeing your there!

Classes occur during the weekday evenings (typically after-school), and Saturdays and Sundays.

Camps are happening at specific times during the year and are advertised regularly to parents. Contact Smart Kids Robotics about our March Break and Summer Camps.

Our experienced instructors will assess a student’s level before using our questionnaire and then again after the first class to understand their level. We also will get a feeling from the student on where they want to be so kids are motivated to succeed yet challenged enough to drive their interest.

Simply – No!  Experimental play, drawing ideas, building and testing on spare time is what our future engineers do. They sometimes compete in competitions and that alone drives their ambition and motivation to build better.

Smart Kids Robotics provides at coding, Robotics, and text-prompt based AI (Artificial Intelligence – OPEN AI) coding and Technology classes such as web development and so much more. Our programs are designed for kids in grades 2 to 12.  Our courses are built with multiple challenges with increased complexity but created for beginners, intermediate and Alpha / Omega robotics students.

Competing

Smart Kids Robotics competes in competitions such as:

  • SKOR (Smart Kids Open-Robotics®),
  • WRO (World Robotics Olympiad®),
  • FLL (FIRST Lego League®),
  • Canadian Computing Challenge®,

POLICIES

We primarily use email to communicate to parents but do feel free to call us within business hours at: (647) 970-2242.

IMPORTANT: You can also click the phone number to call us!

Registration fee(s) for new enrollments are never charged.

Be calm and at peace!

There is also absolutely no commitment of time a student must enrol unless otherwise you choose to enrol in any of our promotional specials. Students can leave a program at any time given one-months written notice (an email to your instructor would suffice).

We accept credit card payments and EMT (Interac e-transfers) as well as Apple Pay.  If paying your fee by credit card, a monthly fee will be charged to your credit card on the 2nd day of each month.

Payment could be stopped or paused with (1) one-month advance notice via email and subsequent email confirmation to you.

If paying by EMT (Interac e-transfer), please remit payment within the (1st week) first-week of each month.  A $20 late payment charge is charged if not paid by the 15th of the month.  Again, our backend automatically charges an additional $20 (twenty-dollars); if the payment for the classes is not received by the 15th of the month fees are due.

The fee is non-refundable once processed.

In case of a change in payment information, please email us 7-10 days before the payment is processed at: [email protected]

Fees may be adjusted if there is a course change or class type different than the one chosen before.

MISSED CLASSES: We do not and cannot credit, prorate, and or refund fees for missed classes.

The fee is not prorated for shorter months.
(For example: Three classes per month) Students will make-up those classes where some months have extra weeks. (For example: Five classes per month).

The fee is based on four (4) classes per month, remains the same for each month based on the class your child is enrolled.

Kids change, life changes, plans change… we understand.

Our policy is as follows:

  • Make-up Classes: Weekday and Saturday and After-School Robotics and Coding Classes apply here. One Make-up Class is permitted for within the period of eight consecutive weekly classes.
  • Make-ups classes must be completed within an eight consecutive week period which is based on your child’s start date.
  • Parents need to provide us two-days advance notice for us to schedule your child into another class for their make-up class.
  • Requests to skip a week with less than two-days notice, and or a last minute cancelation, and or no-show, will result in the charge of a class.
  • Same-day notice is permitted for illness via a phone call to: 647-970-2242 or by email to: [email protected] and must be provided prior to the start of their class.
  • Make-ups may be be scheduled anytime we are open for Weekday / Saturday / After-School Robotics and Coding classes

If We Miss a Class (with or without advance notice)

  • With our After-School & Weekend Applied Robotics, Coding and STEM programs students work independently on their own lessons yet in the event they miss a class they can pick up where they left off without missing a beat.
  • Students work at their own pace on their lessons, it’s that simple.
  • If parents are away more than 2 weeks, please give us a call to discuss so we can ensure they do not miss anything for their return.

Thanks for understanding!

In the event a parent needs to cancel a camp or program, a credit may be issued for the value of the unused portion.  If a credit is issued, it will be issued via email from the school administrator.

  • A credit may be considered if there is at least eight weeks advance notice.
  • If a camp date is available for an earlier week we may be able to shift your child to that week.
  • We can’t shift camps to weeks later in the summer season.
  • We allow parents to find other families to take their camp spots (but the economics of that will need to be worked out between the families)
  • Cancellations of less than 8 weeks will not result in a credit.
  • In the event that we need to pause in-class programs due to a mandated lockdown, we pause the program for all and the students will pick back up when we are allowed to re-open again.
  • Parents have 12 months to use their credit.
  • If you have any questions, please call to discuss.

Kids change, life changes, plans change… No excuse for cancellation is necessary.

Our policy is as follows:

Classes Withdrawal: A student may withdraw anytime, in any other multiverse, in this universe and again at anytime given one month notice is provided via email from your guardian or parent. Withdrawal must be made through email.

Camps Withdrawal: Up to 1 week before the program’s start date, the full fee minus $40 (administration fee) will be refunded. No refunds will be issued if cancelled after the first day of camp begins within the same year.

Hope that gives you peace of mind and by the way – you’re welcome to come back anytime too when interest rekindles itself or your child wants to invent the next big thing.

If you are running late, please CALL: (647) 970-2242 us to let us know!

Every parent is required to sign and provide medical emergency information for their child and will not be able to attend our center unless otherwise it has been completed by a parent or guardian.  In the event of injury or severe illness, parents and guardians must permit the Smart Kids Robotics and or Happy Learning Education Center instructors and or staff to obtain medical treatment for their child. Parents and guardians agree when they register their child into any of our programs that if their child needs to be transported to an emergency facility, that the decision to do so will be made by the emergency team responders who would be called to attend to your child’s medical emergency needs.

Closures due to weather such as snow storms, high damaging winds and or even power outages related to weather are just some of the extreme weather conditions we’re all experiencing.

Check your email or we’ll try to call each parent.

No worries – we’ll be providing a make-up class will if we need to cancel a class due to extreme weather.
