Robotics Classes Lv. 100 – 200
Kids Ages 5 to 8

Students learn to build, design, and construct simple and layered machines such as axel & cog wheels, pulleys, levers, beams, connectors and platform structures support mechanisms.  The robotic classes for kids involve coding basics, framework coding, movement and reaction and is designed to be self-paced learning with a competitive robotics challenge.

Class Description

What is Level 100 to 200 Robotics for Kids?

Our program is an introduces your child aged 5 to 8 to robotics and programming as well as STEM based related engineering and scientific concepts.   Students are provided hands-on experience building structures, understanding axel & cog wheels, pulleys, levers, structural beams, gear ratio, support mechanisms and all of this is done in a fun and engaging way.  What makes Smart Kids Robotics unique is that our programs also involve real-world problem solving challenges, student collaboration, and a unique engineering framework / methodology every student learns through their journey.

Your child begins their journey at Level 100 but some might exceed faster than others and we assess each child’s experience with each level. Students having prior robotics and or coding experience may begin at a higher level.

What do they do each week?

We believe that children learn best when they do things with purpose which is why every lesson is focused on varying STEM related concepts around robotics and coding.  Your child learns to build and code robotics to complete weekly challenges with structures, mechanics, and code that are all visualized to help your child develop critical thinking, acuity, and using an engineering framework to problem-solve.  Your child will be engaged, have fun and develop skills that keep them focused and motivated.

What is the class structure?

Your child is assigned their own laptop, no need to bring one but you can choose to.  And they work at their own pace designing, building & coding through guided instruction, sometimes completing challenges independently and at other times collaboratively within small groups. Classes are 90 minutes and include:

    • 20 Min. – Robotics & Coding Program Challenge Lesson (STEM-Based)
    • 40 Min. – Robotic Building
    • 20 Min. – Coding Build
    • 10 – 15 Min. – Challenge Completion / Testing

All students build different robotics that serve to focus on completing a different challenge at every class.

As an example: A SmartKids Robotics STEM lesson may include:

  1. Learning about Amazon.com robotics in a warehouse (we build a mini-robot to transport fruit).
  2. Learning about Canada’s Paramount Wonderland and about ride momentum (we build a Ferris Wheel to learn about circular force).
  3. Learning about Chemistry and How Scientists separate liquids to know how much of one thing is mixed into another (we build a centrifuge robot and separate liquids).
  4. Learning about how grocery or mall doors work (we build motion activated sliding doors).
  5. Learning about how ants know where another ant traveled (we build an ant that follows a line).

We’ve 210 STEM-based robotic builds that to provide your child with years of scientific and engineering knowledge that is fun and highly engaging!
